In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Statement regarding the beginning of the Month of Safar 1429 A.H.
Based on the possibility of sighting the crescent at sunset Thursday February 7th, 2008 in some of the western parts of North America, the Crescent Committee of the Council of Muslim Shia Scholars in North America held its monthly meeting to determine the beginning of the Month of Safar. After investigating, the members of the committee were not able to identify and did not receive any reports of sightings of the crescent from any place in North America.
Based on this, Friday February 8th, 2008 will be the last day of the Month of Muharram, and Saturday February 9th, 2008 will be the first day of the Month of Safar.
It follows that the Fortieth day of Imam Hussein peace be upon him martyrdom will be on February 28th, 2008 and the day of Death of the Holy Prophet Mohammed peace be upon him and his holy household will be on March 7th, 2008.

بيان بخصوص أول شهر صفر الخير لسنة 1429
نظراً لتوقعات إحتمالية لرؤية الهلال غروب يوم الخميس الموافق 7 شباط 2008 في بعض المناطق الغربية لأميركا، عقدت هيئة الهلال في مجلس علماء المسلمين الشيعة إجتماعها الشهري لتحديد بداية شهر صفر. وقد أظهرت متابعات أعضاء الهيئة بعدم تحقق رؤية الهلال في غروب يوم الخميس في أي من مناطق أمريكا الشمالية.
عليه سيكون يوم الجمعة 8 شباط هو اليوم المتتم لشهر محرم الحرام، وأن يوم السبت 9 شباط 2008 هو أول أيام شهر صفر الخير.
وبالتالي، سيكون الاربعين الحسيني يوم 28 شباط، ويوم وفاة النبي محمد (ص) يوم 7 آذار 2008
