Announcement of Imam Mahdi Association of Marjaeya (I.M.A.M.) in Commemorating the Loss of His Eminence Sayyid Abdul Aziz al-Hakim
------------------------------
In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful, “Each one on it will perish; yet lasting is the Face of your Lord, Majestic and Munificent.” (Quran 55:26-27)
With great sadness and sorrow, this morning we received news of the departure of a great man of struggle, his eminence Hujjatul Islam wal Muslimeen, Sayyid Abul Aziz al-Hakim – leader of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq – who passed away as a result of the illness which he had been suffering from for some time.
His eminence Sayyid Abdul Aziz was the last in the chain of sons of the late Supreme Religious Authority, his eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Muhsin al-Hakeem (may Allah be pleased with him). He, along with many members of the al-Hakim family, especially his brother – the martyr Ayatollah Sayyid Muhammad Baqir al-Hakim – were among those who Allah meant to be examples for the virtues of struggle and resilience in the face of oppressors, namely the wretched Baathist regime. These blessed individuals spent their lives in prisons, displacement, exile, and hardship, until Iraq and the Iraqis were rid of the Baathist gang. At that point, Iraq entered a new conflict, in which the al-Hakim brothers arguably had the most important role in participation and influencing the process of reconstruction and management.
We would like to offer our condolences to the Imam of our time (may Allah hasten his reappearance), our Jurists and Scholars, Islamic seminaries, believers across the globe, and especially the oppressed people of Iraq, for this immense tragedy. We ask Allah – the Exalted – to accept Sayyid Abdul Aziz with plentiful mercy and to inspire his family and friends – especially his son, his eminence Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim – with the utmost signs of patience and solace. Indeed, Allah is Compassionate, Merciful…
“We belong to Allah, and to Him we return” (Quran 2:156).
